How do you jumble the image up at the start?

I've been following your work for over a year I think and it's probably the best on here

i really think you should just paint the shapes without using the photograph. doesnt seem like it really speeds the process up any... great work of course ;D

Gotta say this is yet another wonderful piece of digital painting! I think I'm learning things from you, but not really, but in my attempts to understand what you do, I'm teaching myself things unrelated to your style. So alls good. I do have to say however, that I have to add to the group that first thought it was a picture of a lone kangaroo. Which is a pretty cool illusion.

this is funny, i saw this as a thumbnail and thought: yeah! cool idea, a melancholic rat on a stone is waiting at the wild sea for her love or sth. like that - click - just a human :(

Heheh, wow, I thought it was a rat or a kangaroo when I saw the preview size =) It's looking great! It's much fun to see the photos evolve into something completely different.

I'm not going to speak for him... but from what I've seen... it's all about getting randomness to spur ideas and directions that would otherwise have not presented themselves. Some of the textures and shapes stay towards the finishing steps, and others don't.

yeah youre right. after he is doing this random shapes he searches for interessing shapes. so he saw this women and then he put her in another contest like e.g seaside.

Leventep is using photography for his underpainting. He transforms, (warp, distort, copy..etc.) them for some basic shapes like in step 2, you can see silhouette of a girl. It speeds up a process, at least for him.
