it doesnt make your point less true that most comics movies dont really work all that well (an able director and actors that can pull of larger than life characters seem to be a pretty good bet), its just that conan isnt a comics movie. the old 1980s conan is mostly based on the frazetta paintings and the 2011 thing is based on the desire to print money
i guess when a comic adaptation doesnt live up to expectations and you can see they really tried, that would be okay with me. its just that hollywood is grabbing franchise after franchise and turns each of them into a predictably bad movie. thats what really sucks, because its open lack of respect for the material.
now, a film adaption thats really close to the (conan) literature would be pretty darn amazing. theres a bit of depth to conan as a character that is lost in the films.
