Haha the OLD ones! I was in California for the first time recently and as I laid back with a big bucket of ice cream and a huge spoon I turned on the TV and there was Conan! "When in California!" I said to myself.
AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And holds true to what I have always said. Comic to film movies NEVER work. They should be brutally animated - CG all the way - just the way those characters were always... larger than life! The way we grew up on... Live action comic films fail in this regard... What they need is Leventep to illustrate and animate Conan and Hollyweird will finally get it right! NICE F'en job as always!!
except that conan isnt a comic but a series of stories by robert e. howard.
it doesnt make your point less true that most comics movies dont really work all that well (an able director and actors that can pull of larger than life characters seem to be a pretty good bet), its just that conan isnt a comics movie. the old 1980s conan is mostly based on the frazetta paintings and the 2011 thing is based on the desire to print money
The Savage Sword of Conan? That's a comic series... Others too. (I guess that's what I'm basing my rant on...) Just the overall comic to film disasters. But you understand my point and I appreciate that. Hopefully one day we'll see a terrific adaptation.
yeah, they eventually made comics out of the original conan stories. its just that conan dates back to the 1930s and the first conan comics were from the 70s. so, strictly speaking, conan films arent comic adaptions. i guess when a comic adaptation doesnt live up to expectations and you can see they really tried, that would be okay with me. its just that hollywood is grabbing franchise after franchise and turns each of them into a predictably bad movie. thats what really sucks, because its open lack of respect for the material.
now, a film adaption thats really close to the (conan) literature would be pretty darn amazing. theres a bit of depth to conan as a character that is lost in the films. (an adaptation of the character that inspired conan - king kull of atlantis - would be even more awesome, cause kull is as warlike as conan, but much more brooding. lots of gems in pulp literature <3)
